Rail Connections

Each stage of the ride starts / finishes in a town with a rail service, meaning that you can use the train network to join up with or leave the ride easily by train.

Stage 1
Joining: Catch the weekly Savannahlander from Cairns to Forsayth, a two-day trip travelling through rugged bushland and stunning gorges. The Savannahlander has limited space for bikes but Outbike can transfer bikes from Cairns to Forsayth in the ride vehicles. More information at http://www.savannahlander.com.au/
Leaving: Catch the Inlander from Hughenden to Townsville, an 8-hour trip with ample space for bikes in the baggage cars. More information at http://www.qr.com.au/

Stage 2
Joining: From Townsville, catch the Inlander to Hughenden, an 8-hour trip via Charters Towers with space for bikes in the baggage car. More information at http://www.qr.com.au/
Leaving: From Longreach, catch the Spirit of the Outback to Brisbane via Rockhampton, a 24 hour journey via mining towns Emerald and Blackwater with ample space for bikes in the baggage cars. More information at http://www.qr.com.au/

Stage 3
Joining: Catch the Spirit of the Outback from Brisbane Rockhampton to Longreach with ample space for bikes in the baggage cars. More information at http://www.qr.com.au/
Leaving: From Quilpie, catch the Westlander via Roma, Toowoomba and Ipswich to Brisbane, an overnight trip which crosses the Great Dividing Range. Please note that the first section from Quilpie to Charleville will be on a connecting Road Coach. More information at http://www.qr.com.au/

Stage 4
Joining: Catch the Westlander from Brisbane to Quilpie (Charleville to Quilpie on connecting Road Coach), an overnight trip with space for bikes in the baggage car. More info at http://www.qr.com.au/
Leaving: From Bourke, catch NSW CountryLink western rail service to Sydney via Dubbo, Orange and Lithgow. More information at www.countrylink.info

Stage 5
Joining: Catch the NSW CountryLink western rail service from Sydney to Bourke via Dubbo, Orange and Lithgow. More information at www.countrylink.info
Leaving: From Griffith, you’ve got the choice of getting to Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide. Catch the NSW CountryLink southern rail service to Sydney weekly on Sunday via Cootamundra and Goulburn. More information at http://www.countrylink.info/ The V/Line to Melbourne leaves on Sunday afternoon, find out more at http://www.vline.com.au/ Otherwise, catch a lift to Adelaide with Outbike (details and cost TBA).

Keep in mind Qantas and rail/coach services all charge for bike transport.

The Savannahlander is a two-car rail motor with limited space for bikes, however Outbike can also provide bike transport from Cairns to Forsayth.

Queensland rail services to Hughenden, Longreach and Charleville have sleeper cars (prices are reasonable) as well as ample space for bikes in their baggage cars.

Coach-rail services in and out of Quilpie (coach to Cunnamulla) and Bourke (coach to Dubbo) may be tight on luggage space.

From Griffith, NSW Countrylink trains and V/Line coach may be tight for bike space. Outbike will help co-ordinate freight services and bike boxesfor the transportation of bikes to suit demand.
